The music is fine, but the relentlessly out of tune drone that passes for vocals just makes this whole album rather unpleasant. Also the obsession with the wettest echo effects you’ve ever heard tends to distract the listener from the fact that the band do actually know how to play music (at least a little).
Really the album is more of a conceptual joke than an actually musical experience, and the charm of said concept wears very thin after only a couple of cuts. It’s not really deep and it doesn’t really say anything, which just makes me ask why it was ever made. I mean, really, what’s the point?

Worthless Waste – Worthless Waste

I hate to use the term ‘witchcore’ because it’s not really a genre at all when you come right down to it, but I suppose when an artist like Worthless Waste calls their music witchcore with such conviction I have to believe them. Luckily, however, I don’t have to like it.
The title is accurate. It goes nowhere and serves no purpose. Each cut is just a repetition of a single riff, and that sucked to begin with, and then the whole mess is just layered with as many effect plug-ins as Waste can fit on his computer. It doesn’t sound good, it’s not artistically interesting. It’s just a whole lot of noise that serves no purpose other than pissing me off.
Why on earth this useless music continues to be made is beyond me.

Human Ouroboros – Curmudgeon
2011 – Grindcore Karaoke

Thrashing, muddy, and full of raw energy this release just bashes the brain in with an unrelenting sense of power. It’s explosive with nothing even reaching two minutes, and the riffs crunch like there’s no tomorrow. Really, it’s just a microcosm of chaotic energy.
The only real downside I can see is that the production values make the thing side more unfinished than is warranted. Tracks just cut off without warning and the riffs and vocals become indistinct in the weird levelling. Now, this could have been used to great effect highlighting the sludginess of the record, but I don’t think these boys are quite smart enough to have done that here.
I know it’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea, but for those die hard fans of real hardcore and the most base elements of heavy metal this release will be a welcome addition to their collection.
